There's a broken window in the room. Or shall I just tell you the answer? Though you are close to it.

So did the water come into the window?
Was the room close to the beach?
Was it a flood or tsunami?
Was the room in an aquarium?
Did the man break the window?

Okay, this is a wild guess at it, but it's better than nothing.
The four men were playing cards on a ship in a room below deck (and below water level). One of them decided to uncork the bottle of brandy, however, there was pressure on the inside of the bottle and the cork shot out, breaking the window. They all tried to flee, but there was only enough room on the lifeboat for three people. The fourth person decided to go down with the ship, and drank the bottle of brandy to get himself drunk enough to not notice the drowning that much.
Am I even close?

Was the room somewhere below sea level (the level of the ocean's surface)?
Was there a cork that shot out? If so, did it hit the man?
Did the hooks have lifejackets on them?

The glass broke and water started pouring in rapidly. There was only one other way out but only three lifejackets in the room. The men quickly played a game of poker to see who got the lifejackets. The guy lost, drank the brandy, got drunk, the room filled right up with water (filling up the glasses and bottle with water) and the man drowned.
I am yet to figure out why the man broke the window or why the room did not contain an excess of water or how the other people got out. It must be something to do with the type of room. But i can think that far.
I pass the batton to someone clevererer.

Who said the room did not contain an excess of water? At some point, the water rose high enough to fill the glasses on the table didn't it?
I think the man broke the window because it wasn't just ordinary poker, it was Extreme Poker!
Did the man break the glass deliberately, to make the game of poker dangerous? So did they play poker while the water was rising, and the loser got no lifejacket?
Perhaps the type of room does not matter? It only matters that it was below sea level and it filled with water when then man broke the glass. Perhaps it was a purpose-built Extreme-Poker room on the ocean floor.

I know this isn't a "yes or no" question, but what part did Kikumbob get wrong?

"why the room did not contain an excess of water"
That's wrong, rest is correct but he didn't tell the whole story.
