What hardware suites you?
Do you like to pickup your x-box controller and have some fun on halo 2?
Or do you prefer to use a mouse to look about and having controll of what the buttons on the keyboard do?(I find that you can only use presets with ps/ps2 games, which is annoying)

It depends on the game.
If it's a strategy game (Worms, Starcraft, etc), I prefer keyboard/mouse.
If it's a MMORPG, I prefer keyboard/mouse (especially if there's macros involved).
If it's an FPS, I don't really care.
For everything else I can think of, there's controllers!

I don't see how fps can be played with a joystick/joypad.
If you're being shot from behind, it'll take ages to swing the view around to fill his stomach with lead.
Where as if you have a mouse, you can easily turn around and the like(provided you have the space, and the mouse sensitvity is set correctly)
But with flight games(eg: X-wing VS tie-fighter) a joystick is needed.
in X-wing VS tie-ffighter, ther's no way you can pull of succsessfull dog fights with a mouse.
You need to beable to turn in a direction and keep on turning in that direction.

HarrY, there's this thing usually in games, it's called the sensitivity level. If you set it higher, the view will move faster. Thus, how it is possible to play an FPS without a mouse. How do you think we've all survived on Halo and Splinter Cell so long on the consoles?
Note: If you need an example of what I mean, put Halo 1 in, and set the sensitivity to level 10. The view REALLY swings around at that level.
Edit: Something else. Most FPS have a nice little damage indicator that shows the direction the shots came from. So, if you're playing a smart game, most likely you're going to be moving side to side as you turn around, thus lowering the probability of taking further damage. I know that in Halo 2, I can turn around, get that guy, turn around again, kill another person, and then turn around once more for a final round before a sniper finally buries a bullet in my skull. Plus, I have one of the best assault techniques (IMO).

Mouse, quicker, more accurate.
That is why it is better for fps.

Keyboard + Mouse for FPS (HL2), Stragedy (Worms), and 3rd Person (Max Payne).
Steering Wheel for racing (NFSU2)
Joystick for flight sims (Combat Flight Simulator)
There's my opinion. And what I use atm

You shoot them in the chest? I go straight for the head

Joypad (woo) for fps. I know alot of people have objections to them, but it's not really that it's worse, it's that it's different, and people can't really get used to them. First time I played an fps was with a joypad so for me mouselook is quite hard, don't really play any PC fpss. Glenn is right tho, set the sensitivity up and you've got similar speed to that of a mouse. Once you get used to it you can be very accurate with where you aim. And you don't have to stop tracking someone to move your mouse over the other side of the pad once you reach the end of it. Also your right hand is limited to between 3 and 5 functions, depending on your mouse, whereas using an xbox controller there are 8 functions for your right hand.

| Avast, 'tis a fine day to be sure.
Definitely Keyboard+Mouse for FPS's otherwise it feels really unproffesional trying to shoot someone in the head with an xbox controller. though Halo is quite suited to the Xbox.
Controller or Steering wheel for racing (NFSU2)
Keyboard+Mouse for strategy(worms)

Keyboard and mouse for everything; I can't bear analogue sticks or shoulder buttons. The number keys are very important to me in FPSs for quick weapon changes.

To be honest, I hate using controllers. Actually I've never had a Playstation, Xbox or anything like it. I'm not sure what it is that does it, but i just much more prefer using a keyboard and a mouse.

It generally depends on the game. If it was CS: S(which I hate, due to exteme boredum whilst playing) i probably wouldn't have a shotgun and if i did, yes aiming for the head would be a good idea.
Also, shotguns have a spread, if you're far away and you aim for the head, the chances are that most of the bullets made from the fire will miss the target.
Furthermore, Half Life two's secondary fire on the shotgun is extremely powerfull, so a headshot isn't required.

FPS:
the best controller i ever used was the N64 controller, PS2 pads suck for fps, DC pads were good xbox analog feels weird to me and i've never used a GC pad - Atm i prefer KB & mouse but if i can get a decent N64 pad then i'd be using my converter for FPS on the comp.
Platformer has to be joypad, anything else is mouse kb really.

Gamecube controllers ARE shite when it comes to FPS, then again, I can't stand them anyway.
PS2 controllers are all right, as long as they've actually thought to configure the buttons correctly, and it's a broken in controller.
XBox is the best IMO. The triggers are right beneath the sticks, and it's pretty easy to reach everything else if you're using a Madcatz controller. That's about the only good thing that's come out of Madcatz.
I just can't get used to keyboard and mouse though. I can't get the view to stay in the same place, and my accuracy really suffers. Oh well...

Then make a mod on an xbox controller.
It's real simple. Just remove the connector and put a USB connector on and you can plug it stright into your USB port.
But if you do this, and it doesn't work, don't bitch to me saying that it would.

After I got accustomed to the controls, I didn't have any trouble with GC FPSs. Ever. I actually find the controller quite comfortable Maybe it's the hand size.
