Gamecube controllers ARE shite when it comes to FPS, then again, I can't stand them anyway.

After I got accustomed to the controls, I didn't have any trouble with GC FPSs. Ever. I actually find the controller quite comfortable :P Maybe it's the hand size.

Admittedly, GC controllers are confortable, but not for FPS, except MP and MP2 of course
;).
It's good to use on games such as SA2: Battle and Mario Sunshine.

GC controllers are the best of any console, IMO.
They feel comfortable and easy to use. FPS are no problem for me, the c-stick makes it easy to move.

I hate playing FPS with anything other that a kb and mouse. With a mouse I have ultimate control over my aim, wheras with a joypad, it takes a while to aim where I want.

Joystick for flight simulaters.

Keyboard is ok for most games, but for some you really need a joypad or a steering wheel.

I can't stand GCN controllers becuase they can't take a beating. XBox controllers are the most durable, PS2 is a close second. Gamecube controllers though, well, let's just say we've managed to break more than one during a LAN party, and it wasn't by throwing them.
Also, they just feel a bit wierd. I loved the N64 controllers, but the GCN just doesn't feel right. I HATE that the shoulder buttons click in. It drives me crazy. And the buttons aren't a uniform size. Yes, some people may like this, because it makes it obvious what button you're pushing. But if you play video games as much as I do, it doesn't make a difference since you know where everything is anyway, it just spreads out the buttons more than neccessary.

Yeah, I'll use a GCN controller for it's games. But will I ever really like them? Nope.

Yeah, the pressure sensitive shoulders can be a pain. Particularly when you have to repeatedly press it till it "clicks." But I've grown accustomed to the controls. The only controller I've ever broken was the one I bought that was a turbo Mad Catz one. Things not made by Nintendo for the GameCube seem to be more fragile.

my problem with the 'shoulder' buttons on the GC isn't that they're pressure sensitive, it's the fact they're flimsy things that only barely press in, it is hard to tell when you've pressed it. Still I'm sure it comes with time, like you say. The controller feels like it'll break just picking it up. I like the size and sturdyness of the old xbox ones. I have big hands tho.

Good point, that's why I use a controller for platform games such as Sonic Adventure DX and a steering wheel for CMR 3 and NFSU2

I totally agree with you SPAZ, heh, I never thought i would say that :P.
With a mouse the crosshair is so easy to control, and you can react fast. With the joypad, it takes a long time to get the crosshair where you want it, and a lot of games have even been forced to do this auto-aim thingy. Long live the mouse!

Auto-aim is usually not forced, most games have an option to turn it off. If you know what you're doing, you won't need it anyway. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of people that are flooding the console FPS market that are demanding it. Why can't they just build their skills like everyone else?
Why can't people just like difficult games for that matter? Games are really starting to suck because people are also demanding easier games.

And easier settings such as 4 or 5 difficultly levels and as you said Glenn, Auto-Aim

I went on 007 Night Fire on my brother's PS2 yesterday. I found in extremely difficult and my wrist began to hurt from holding such an uncomfortable controller. Auto aim was on, too.

Just throwing in my 2 cents about the keyboard /mouse vs. joystick/joypad. I go with the keyboard. The only reason I don't go with a mouse is because of my tight computer space. It's right on the edge of the table. If I had to do a quick 180 degree turn, the mouse'd probably fall off the table :P I prefer to tweak the key sensitivity to my liking.

It depends on the game. I can use both to a high standerd but if I had to play Timesplitters on a KB/mouse, It probably wouldn't work. I'ld have to use a pad for driving and fighting games, they don't work well on PC either. RTSs wouldn't translate to console well too.

I'll even make a list!:

PC:
FPS
RTS
TBS

Console:
FPS
Fighting
Driving
