Being forced to use IE at college, does indeed exemplify the quality of the Firefox browser

At home, i can have all my stuff settled into one section on the taskbar, with tabs seperating it up into my sites.

At college, there is quickly 3-4 taksbar sections taken up by IE explorer windows alone. This is before the "stack" which i despise, it makes it very difficult to switch easily.

At home ive never been pestered by a pop up

At college, i can find my screen filled with them, some off screen and some just refusing to close. I cant right click them and close, becuase right clicking is disabled, on the college computers. This compunds the taskbar space problem

At home i can enjoy the benefits of alpha transparency, which i use often in my art.

At college these images do not appear unless viewed seperatly.

Now onto hom - home comparisons.

Specifically, adware and spyware.

This used to be a problem running IE, now i visit my share of comprimising werbsites. And it was a nightmare to scan the computer every week or more, becuase i had hijacks, diallers, and everything under the sun.

Firefox stops all this. I bearly scan once a month.

-------------

To be honest, if you still think IE is a good browser, your plain old stubborn, its only the leading browser at the moment, becuase people are ignorant. They take their pc to be "cleaned out" at the computer shop.

Its not a crime most certainly. But its REALLY annoying to be forced to use the sub standard IE at other peoples houses, or at college.

Sonic, what can IE do that firefox cant do?

No, IE does have more things to click on than Firefox, not that I hate Firefox.

I highly doubt it. What would those things be? Anything IE has, Firefox also has! (correct me if i'm wrong)

yes, more things appear on IE's browser window, but it's all redundant, and most of it's spyware-based. Firefox can easily do everything IE can, and OOOOOOOOH so much more. firefox is also a hell of a lot faster; even on dial-up.

righty, ive got Firefox and the difference became apparent right away, anims are alot faster and pages/images load quicker. Things also look slightly better. Thanks for helping me make the right choice lads :D. Btw Jay, its the same at my school, and its becuase they cant afford even average quality software, the pcs look nice, but have cheap components, the head of the computing department is an arrogant piece o crap and art wont let any non art student near their Macs.

i think he ment good things but valid point IE does have a lot of security holes that often get exploited by certain sites, then a boat-load of pop-ups find thier way onto your system

I use IE as it tends to me a bit more forgiving with HTML. But i have used Firefox, netcape (now merged with mozilla).

Firefox is by far much better then other browsers. I have never needed built in png support, as I dont use them in web sites. Jay-pegs have a better compression so i use those.

IE also suports a feew tags that firefox does not. Such as "bgsound". Netsacape can use the "multicol" tag where as IE does not.

Still Firefox is the best choice, although i can be bothered to download and install it.

Jay, press ALT + TAB to select the next winsow, or just click it in the taskbar then press ALT+F4 to close it. if it beeps and does not allow you to close it then press ALT+CTL+DEL and end the program from the task manager, assuming that your admin has allowed you access to the task manager.

I agree that stacked windows are annoying

There's one problem with that though (aside from the obvious permissions problem). If you're using a Windows 9x version (95, 98, ME), closing Internet Explorer with CtrlAltDelete also restarts Explorer, which means that any Windows Explorer/My Computer and other IE windows go down with it. As well as a few other programs. I'm assuming that the college is using Win XP, but for everyone else...
