Heh, well I haven't started a thread in a while, and I was looking at annelid's sig and I thought... hmm... why not start a thread for startbar screenshots. I can imagine that most people will have utterly boring startbars tho.
I'm on 1280 resolution so I decided to cut an internet explorer window out of the start bar and move it all along a bit. lol.

My Startbar

Shame I can't install litestep on this computer cause mine's WinME & that would mean having to install it for all users. Still litestep would mean a much more interesting startbar. heh.

edit: lol, oh no, I'm on a microsoft webpage in that screenshot. should've put it onto BTP or something. Maybe I'll edit it. hehe.

edit again: phew, disaster averted. It's okay everyone, no need to panic... I'll probably be editing this post again soon tho.

so here's a rundown of the icons on the startbar ;).

Show desktop (you'll probly know that one ;))
My computer...
My documents...
Internet Explorer
Mozilla
The Dir with my name
The BTP directory on my comp.
Opera
WS_FTP LE
SmartFTp
Msn Messenger
Trillian
Font Lister
SEdit - A text editor written by my brother :)
Photoshop
ImageReady
W:A
WWP
Soldat
EasyPHP
Colour Picker
MySQL Front
PHP CHM Manual

heh, that's it I think

I suppose that's one "good" thing about my degree (aero engineering), there aren't too many terms/words/etc that have "alternative" meanings.
What, like cockpits, turboshafts, thrust, nozzles, corkscrews, ram drag, payload, flaps, and wind tunnels?

mine are a little dodgy cos i have an extra toolbar up the side lol, i find it helps stop my quick launch being cluttered. the ones you may not recognise are:

side bar: folder with eye - pixie, a colour picker
feather - PHP CHM manual
feather with green triangle - apache on
feather with req square - apache off
horses head - opera (not the browser, the payroll system)

and on the quick launch the fourth one along is add/remove programms.

I included the start menu cos i keep a lot of my programs in there, as well as on my desktop lol - i have no more room!

photoshop 7
ie
flash mx
kazaalite
microsoft word xp
mein dokuments
trillian pro
winamp 2.91
wordpad
w:a
ws_ftp

i DESPISE 1280 and the fools who use it. it's 5:4 and not 4:3 and messes up your eyes as well as your gfx skills, the perspective is all off. if you resize it on your screen to be narrow then i respect you, otherwise you are a fucking idiot. i have a 17" so its not really easy to see the narrow 1280 so i dont use it, even tho this mon can go to 1920 rofl

and now for the programs menu (hiding my full last name! ty windows)

i keep it so its always one screen high, no more, no less.

this mon doesnt do 1152 :'C

um, methinks it doesn't actually change how things look on the screen, apart from making it smaller, in proportion to how it was on a diff res. I don't know this for sure, but even tho it's a diff size, it looks exactly the same to me. It's like a widescreen monitor, they resize things in proportion, it would be stupid if they didn't, weveryone would have really wide icons. all it does is give you more space, not wierd proportions.

In order to prove this to myself. I drew a 3*3 dot in photoshop, zoomed it to 1600%, and measured both sides of it, yep, they both came to 1.2cm.

heh.

trillian pro

grr, if only... :). It is a bit stupid that they started charging for it, but I guess they have to make money somehow.

the point is that even though there is compensation there is still a difference on most monitors. you get used to it but i'm a purist and my monitor doesn't do what yours does as well.

and 16:10 monitors have special resolutions like 1600x1024.
