The vector brush. Just make the highlight lines a lighter colour than the area ur highlighting and then, what I do, is use a gaussian blur...

my hand hurts now.

The "filling" is just 3 colours.

Once youve drawn the outline just use the middle colou rto cour the area in. then a lighter one for highlights and another for shading.
