I would go with Radeon, since Nvidia isn't getting Direct X 9 support for awhile.
Might I also suggest either a Radeon 9600 Pro, or a Radeon 9800.

hey peeps, sorry for digging up this thread but ive narrowed me choices down a fair bit.
looking at this Gainward Thing
and the asus 9600XT.
these are both new out cards. I probs getting the gainward one, IF i canfind a supplier with the right card in stock.
Thats why i came back. The link is that savastore that dreameater suggested and i wondered how good they are. IF stock delivery times. I dont want to order and get told its out of stock
also these cards got very good reviews the gainward is slightly faster but doeesnt have as good a bundle
oh and is super difficult to get hold of imo

I'm not sure about the difference in the chipsets, but you can get a Gainward FX5600 with twice the memory for £109.22 (£115.68 with shipping) at CCL. See http://www.cclcomputers.biz/acatalog/vga_gain.htm if you're interested.

the diffirence i can see is the clock speeds. And the number of triangles. The new version has faster clock speeds and does 3X the number of triangles.
comparison
