god damn it. laptop was going slow, and it was taking more than 12 hours to do a full virus scan. So i decided to reformat. I hate doing this because the whole process can take up 2 hours or more, which is dumb. Then you gotta go fishing around for the right drivers so that everything will run properly. then you gotta install the updates which take more time. then i gotta install anti-virus software and crap like that. finally, i gotta configure the whole thing so it runs how i want it to.
While installing it, i had installed the wrong version of XP. I meant to install the professional version, instead of the home edition. i was very close to installing the home edition, untill i realized it was not the one i wanted. F U WINDOWS.
pioedit: abd, stop fucking posting this that.

Windows isn't that bad. It's meant for lazy people like me who don't want everything to be so complicated (linux).
It's also meant to be as user-friendly as possible (vista)
Why do you even have a Home edition? Trash that disc right now.

there are stupid people in the house that live on home edition. also, i disagree with you. after my whole linux experience, it's way less complicated than window. i'll be having Ubuntu dual-booting with Windows XP, and i'm very sure installation of Linux will take less than half an hour.
Edit:
Well fuck. My useless brother managed to get my drivers disk covered with some weird green shit. I can't get it off the disk without scratching it, and the CD drive won't read it. Now I have Windows XP without drivers. Can't get internet, can't set screen resolution. Stupid fucking kid.
At least I got Ubuntu to save my ass, can download the drivers and transfer them over to Windows XP.

Now why do you think I have now nearly migrated to Ubuntu then
(OK I still need Windows for sometimes office07 and iTunes but the rest o' the time its linux all ze way)
AND
AbdBoy - May I recommend something like a ghost partition, so when you want to reformat, load that ghost partition into your main partition and a-voila

That has to be the best thing I've ever heard. But the hard drive on the laptop isn't large enough to have a ghost partition :-/
Also, why do you need to use windows for iTunes and Office07 when there are Linux alternatives? If it's because you don't like the Linux alternative's, I understand.
The main reason I don't use Linux as primary is because Ubuntu has alot of problems with me docking my laptop.

AdbBoy whats the size of the HDD?
Mine is 80gb (in reality 75GB) and...
10GB for the Preloaded Acer vista recovery partition
15GB for my Data
10GB for Ubuntu to run on
1GB for Swap
38.5GB for Windows and the rest of the crap.
With a ghost partition, it can be compressed as well, and what is installed is the BASICS - OS + Drivers + Essential programs
