Sup.
I'm building a new computer, and I need to know which motherboard/cpu I should go for.
Intel or AMD?
What I'm looking for is a CPU mainly under $100 and a motherboard just aswell... so yeah. None of that expensive quad core 3249032 ghz crap.

I prefer AMD. Yeah, Intel are more faster, but AMD are more resistant. Some people, I don't remember who, did a test: They took 2 computers, same speed, same clocking, Intel and AMD, and kept computers turned on for about a month. The Intel processor burned at the 2nd week, and the AMD was alive until 1 month and half after the test. Personally, I prefer AMD, even I still have a motherf***ing pentium 3 ^^. When I'll have a new computer, I'll put an AMD. You should, too!

I've never had a problem with Intel, but you might want to go for AMD because they're better value for money.
I disagree with MilesPrower though, AMDs are not more resistant. They're more likely to be permanently damaged if there's a cooling problem. There's a good article here: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1194

I've been using Intel my whole life. Never tried AMD, but I was always recommended to use AMD, but make sure you got your cooling.

My family PC is an AMD. I use Intel, cuz I don't have choice. But if I can choice between Intel and AMD, guess what. Intel are good, but the other one is better, for my personal use.

I honestly recommend you an Intel CPU over Amd.
Yes AMD are cheaper than Intel but they are less performant than Intel.
Some people already asked me the question,but BTW Amd sucks for gaming and intensive applications.
And please check for a GOOD motherboard,that support a 1600HMZ fo FSB in order to upgrade easily your computer.
I'm about to make this computer
=> 3,16GHZ FSB1333 6MB Buffer E8500
=> Asus P5K Premium
=> 4 GB of Corsair PC2 800MHZ (PC6400)
=> Asus EN8800GTX/HTDP/768M PCI Express Graphic Card
=> 1 TB of hard disk espace (Seagate hard disks SATA2 one of 250gb and other of 750gb)
=> Power Silverstone Element 500
=> Case Cooling Master CM690
=> 3 Pioneer DVD/CD Burners

Intel have better (smaller) technologies than AMD, but AMD are catching up.
Furthermore AMD are cheaper, and do just as well comparing to an equivalent Intel

Yes AMD are cheaper than Intel but they are less performant than Intel.
That's a contradiction. If AMD are cheaper, then you can get the same performance for less money. If AMDs had less performance than Intel then you would have to spend more on AMD to catch up, and it wouldn't be cheaper any more!

So I guess Intel is the way to go, because I am a heavy gamer and expecting my rig to be able to play Farcry 2 nicely..

OK yes I contradicted myself big time there ><
The equivalent AMD to Intel, AMD would normally be cheaper, but would both be the same.
Intel have more advanced technologies than AMD
