I wonder how many people still at least remember adventure soft and their puzzle adventures The Feeble Files and, more infamously, the anti-hero Simon The Sorcerer. After being introduced to it by my dear cousin me and my brother were hooked on the first two games and it was then we discovered how badly walkthroughs ruined a good game.
But thats puzzle adventures for you. Some people have the patience for them. Others rely on walkthroughs (although, really, if they do they shouldnt bother with those games in the first place. Ijuts.) Anyway, apart from the times when you were completley stuck and bored and walking around the game with an air of futility the games were actually very good. Anti heroes are fun to play, especially when they have the humour of a dead cuttlefish (i.e. its so bad it is kinda funny.)I even adopted a swampy t-shirt!
That was before Simon The Sorcere 3D, which was, frankly, appaling and had the humour of a living cuttlefish; just bloody irritating. The graphics were horribly square and unfunny. There were bugs. You could walk through hedges and fences, fall through the ground and someone attempted to add some action and mini games??
So I worked through that game, trying to see the brightside. It wasn't all that bad. Simon was still there. There was still humour.
I'm not sure whats happened now though. The Simon The Sorcerer franchise appears to have been "given" to a german company who are now working on a 4th game that looks alot better than the previous 3D game. It's probably too much to ask for them to revert to 2D. But what they are doing is trying to push 2D gameplay into 3Dness. So, fine, whatever. I don't mind german. They just have alot of work to do.
Anyone who hasnt played the first two games should do so. Most of you people are clever enough to. Its probably illegally downloadable somewhere. bitTorrent or something
