Soon enough, DVDs are becoming obsolete in storage technology, and this is what is coming next.

http://www.blu-ray.com/info/

Capable of storing up to 5x more than that of the standard DVD. If you ask me, technology is going too fast to count. :D

technology isn't going fast enough.. I want every wall in my house to be a computer screen, powered by a 2THz processor :p

Also I want 2TB of MRam and a graphics card with 5GB of the stuff.

and maybe a brain implant to control it all.

I personally think technology is going to fast... Soon enough someone will discover a color that doesn't fit on the spectrum, and an asteroid will hit earth somewhere in canada that contains 3 new elements that cannot be found anywhere on earth. But for now, I'd say a 25GB disc is big enough, thats almost the size of my harddrive(i know its small).

You dont measure current technology by whats on the bleeding edge, you measure it by whats in most common usage.

I dont see many cars with audio powered by anything other than CD players, and CDs have been around for over a decade now.

Thats my take on the whole thing anyway.

I hear yah.. the first pc to come out with the BRD technology will be over 3000 USD... i could buy a used car for that much. To think, it took us (supposedly) over 3000 years to make it to the moon, yet in the 30 years after the moon landing, we have already gotten robotics on mars.

Edit: This post was in responce of xSKATEx's post.

its very hard to get new technology out as we can advance technolgy very fast however getting it into society is a very long process. They arelady have ways to make computers close to 3x as fast and super low power but the cost to bring this new technolgy to society isnt worth it to the makers yet.

you guys didn't know about it before? can i borrow the bricks you've been living under?

on the subject of a colour that doesn't fit on the spectrum and hasn't been seen before - i've tried to grasp the concept of that in my mind and I just can't. i don't think it's possible - the spectrum that we are able to see and imagine seems to be in our brain, so if another colour existed, we'd know about it. just random speculation

I have to agree with sargetron here. And didn't we just miss out a huge stage? Where'd HD DVDs go? My Dad got us a DVD/HDD recorder. All we need now are HDDVDs to play it on.

I am frankly amazed that that article says nothing about the HDD. HDDVD is blu-rays competitor. It is being released to the general public as a format around about now, whereas BLu-ray will be released later on. Companies have chosen sides, some have chosen to support HDDDVD, som Blu-ray. This is happening especially with game consoles. Ultimatly, the format with the most support will win and become the next standard format etc.
I think its sony who is developing the blu-ray. And, apparently, if they don't win they're seriously screwed finacially wise.

This article pretty much covers what I said and has a nice big list of all the supporting companies.

I used to see a lot of news stories etc. about both blu-ray and hd dvd. Now I just see Blu-Ray... I'm guessing blu-ray is going to win this one but you never know.
