I was playing a game where one player repeatedly cowed and I wondered why we use the word cow to describe the cheater. I asked the ppl in the game and they were equally clueless. Someone suggested that it was an old joke from T17 but nobody knew.

Answers on a postcard please :)

Damn, you got first.

Anyway.. I've been thinking if it has something to do with a word coward, but I think it's not it.

look it up...
Coward:
n 1: a person who shows fear or timidity
"Coward! You didn't get the crate first because you wanted to kill me first" . Or something of that nature

edit: got a better word anyway?

It comes from the name of the clan CoW, when people in that clan did a bit of cheating/using nasty tactics. That's when people started getting called cows.

What, like cockpits, turboshafts, thrust, nozzles, corkscrews, ram drag, payload, flaps, and wind tunnels?

Now that I'm home, I can copy and paste from where I found out from. I think SunDog posted this on the T17 forums:

Quoted :: SunDog
Quote from SunDog: Back in the early days nobody had heard of a leader game or any other of the numerous rules that now go with ropers, so clan CoW (Chilled Out Worms) came up with the tactic of concentrating on a single worm to take the opposition down to 2 against 1. This meant attacking a worm no matter how weak he was, kinda "cowardly" I admit. I think Worro first came up with the idea of using our clan tag as an insult, but it gradually progressed from there. As we moved away from ropers and into BnG we still used the same tactic, slowly the CoW insult grew and grew into what is used today.

So sometime before ropers were attack the leader, probably 2000 or 2001. :P

The post was on the T17 forums and it was made only 2-3 years ago I think.
