we've been over this before. Microsoft don't make the iRiver. Their software is just on the later models.
Also standard iPods currently come in 30GB or 60GB, and play video as standard. Minis were more like 3, but they're not 'regular' and they don't even make them anymore by the looks of things.
Nano's are 1 2 and 4 GB.
also the standard ones were 20GB for quite a while before they had video iirc.

Wow, C1, alot of ignorance in there.
Anyway, I probably will get an iPod, but i'm more reluctant to get one because I'd just rather not have to use iTunes, but the main thing is that the battery life is pretty poor (atleast for video play back).
Perhaps by the time I have enough money, they'll be better..
Also, I need some software to convert all my videos to the correct file format and res etc. I don't know of any. And any trial ones tend to only do the first 10 secs.
If anyone knows of one, and how to set it up for the iPod then do tell. I could do with finding out how much space it'll all actually take up.

C1 is half a man. He doesn't watch porn on the go.
(Actually you're not half a man if you don't want porn on the go. it's just C1 is half a man.)

Ah, yeah I remember that now - about the iRiver not Microsoft thing. My bad.

Not seen a feature to play one song from the middle an album and then the rest - you can select an entire album to add to the end of the playlist or choose to clear the playlist and play an entire album from the start, on the touch this is. Might be better on the vision. And you can browse by album as well as by artist.
With the zen touch you can select the album, select "view tracks", and then select the track and select "add to playlist". Its a touch (no pun intended) long winded, but its good enough for me.
My main gripe with the touch is the lack of flexibility with playlists, ie 'move track up' / 'move track down' in playlist. You get it in the order you added, or you have to delete and add again. Basically if you want easy to edit playlists you have to use a computer.
I find thats the only problem with the touch. Apart from that its reliable, durable (had it for about three years and theres only one small scratch on the back) cheap (£149 from somewhere random)and...
Anyway, I probably will get an iPod, but i'm more reluctant to get one because I'd just rather not have to use iTunes, but the main thing is that the battery life is pretty poor (atleast for video play back).
...it has around 24 hours battery life. Ive been recharging it about once a month, and I listen to music quite a bit on the bus to and from school, relaxation and when working. I'd choose a zen over an ipod anyday. I dont have enough experience on irivers to say anything about them.

..yeh, I meant no way to quickly add one song and then add the rest of the album to play after it, without having to delete or skip the song you wanted to play first, which I think is what whoever I was replying to was wanting.
HarrY.. the touch doesn't but the vision does, and the thread isn't just about your search anymore :p

For a very cool looking MP3 player go with the Olympus M:Robe.
5g, same price as the 4g iPod mini.

Yeah, kikumbob I think you're right. Thanks for the links.
Now I just need to find out what video format it uses or which is best to use and compress my entire video collection to see if it'll fit.
Ok, so I can use the following:
DivXâ„¢ 4 & 55, XviD5, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG4-SP, WMV9, Motion-JPEG
but which would would be best and what software should be used to mass-compresss and convert my videos? (Curently in .avi encoded with DivX YV12 and MPEG-layer3 audio format and some mpgs.)

depends wether you want quantity or quality.
I "specialise" in audio formats so I couldnt really advise anything.
