I got a new computer a few days back. It runs rather well... until you put the goods on it. I downloaded a Doom3 demo on it recently, and it runs, at a bare-bones minimum. Even then it lags like crazy. Take the system requirements:
-English version of Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
-Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or Athlon XP 1500+ processor or higher
-384MB RAM
-8x Speed CD-ROM drive (1200KB/sec sustained transfer rate) and latest drivers
-2.2GB of uncompressed free hard disk space (plus 400MB for Windows swap file)
-100% DirectXR 9.0b compatible 16-bit sound card and latest drivers
-3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required - 100% DirectX 9.0b compatible 64MB Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers*.
*Important Note: Some 3D accelerator cards with the chipset listed here may not be compatible with the 3D accelerator features utilized by Doom 3. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX 9.0b compatibility. This product does not support Microsoft Windows 95/98/ ME or NT.
-100% Windows 2000/XP compatible mouse, keyboard and latest drivers
-3D hardware Accelerator Card Required--100% DirectXR 9.0b compatible 64MB Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers
-DirectX 9.0b (included)

Then take my specs:

What would it take to run graphic-intensive games like Doom3 or Half-Life 2 on this type o' compy? RAM or some other manner of memory? Being the computer idiot, I went to you guys Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much ladies and gentlemen.

What Graphics card do you have? It doesn't say in the specs up there.

From what my father said when he gave it to me, "it doesn't have one. It feeds off the memory." He's not a genius with these things either, but that's what he said.

In that case, no wonder it doesn't work. Go buy yourself a Graphics card.

EDIT: I have a 9700 Mobiltty on my laptop (Works out to be around the power of a 9600 on stardard desktops) and it runs HL2 fantasticly.

Time to start savin' money.

EDIT: Just as a side note, Warcraft III works perfectly. Everything tuned up, 1024x768, and all that. So do all my other games (they're older though). Just don't want to be led down the wrong direction due to some misunderstanding ;P

Things like Doom3 have extreme graphics and so need a graphics card.

And that graphics card is fine. I think mines a 9600 and most of the games go smothly, cept battle for middle earth.

As a future reference, if you or your dad ever sees a PC that says it uses shared RAM, avoid it like the plague. That shared in front of it means it also uses the RAM for graphics, which means that you're getting screwed over in that department.

Well apparently mine doesn't take video cards. Period. Hrrm. Bit of a predicament...
If I were to buy more RAM, would that solve the problem considering that's what both the graphics and the game feed off? It seems a bit too easy...

Buying more ram would work, though Id imagine you would need about 2 gigs.

Finally, we're getting somewhere:

My exact computer. Why do you say that kikum? I thought 512 would be overkill o_O Then again what do I know?

You should be able to get a PCI (or whatever the type is) card holder to put the graphics card into...
I don't know if you can actually add more ram. How many ram spots do you ahve open?

Shared GFX will never be as good, no matter how much RAM you put in them.

Take the case off an upload a picture of your mobo for us.

First of all.

a Gig of ram. Thats double the 512. Isnt Overkill. Especially for the craptacualr Doom3.

Secondly. You could throw how much ram you want at the computer.

And without a decent graphics card. ( For the bare minimum, what you linked to ) And especially an AGP one. A PCI one wont cut it.

If you cant fit an AGP graphics card. Im afraid. Your not going to play many newer games at anything other than shitty settings.

Answered by the posts up there^^
Im sure you can upgrade almost any computer with RAM, but really it would be worth it to sell that computer and buy one with a card.
