This is just a possibility that occured to me today (well really it occured ages ago when I thought about getting a dedi, but that's a whole different ball game).

Anyway, If anyone is interested in both supporting BTP and getting some pretty cheap webhosting, then I will buy a reseller account and sell you hosting with it. If not then it's no loss to me or you, but if you do then it's be gain for me, and gain for you in a webhosting sense.

I'd be offering, say 600MB - 1GB of disk space and 6-10GB of bandwidth for around $5 (£2.60) a month or $53 ( £28 ) for a year's payment in advance (which you'd get the remainder of back if you cancelled, it's just that the initial investment would be useful for paying the yearly fee to the host).
It would also come with PHP, unlimited MySQL dbs, Perl/CGI (I think Python/CGI as well, but not guaranteed), unlimited subdomains, unlimited e-mail addresses. You get cPanel to control it all with, and I think Scripta as well (for easy installation of certain scripts).

You would have to buy the actual domain yourself, but they're pretty cheap - around $8-10 / year for a .com, or less for a local tld (eg. .co.uk, I think I got mine for £2.50 a year from 1&1).

If you wanted add-on domains I would offer them for a $5 one off charge - again you have to buy the actaul domain - this is just so you can point it to a given directory within your account

The only thing I ask is that you don't host warez, adult content or other illegal stuff, or bots / proxies.

This is obviously mainly intended for people who are BTP users, but anyone else is welcome to have hosting too.

I'm not looking to make a profit, although if 4 or more people stay for a year it should generate a (pretty small) profit. 3 people should make my hosting virtually free, meaning that BTP would no longer be costing me the money it currently is, and two people would have it down to the same price I'm currently paying.
If just one person shows interest, though, then I'll be starting things going - because there are a couple more benefits for me than just the price.

None of the plan details are certain yet - so if you're not happy with the amount of space etc. then feel free to ask and I may well up it for free. I haven't bought a reseller account yet, but I should be able to change over within a day or two of asking for an upgrade.

Anyway, if you're interested, post here or email me at hosting at blamethepixel dot com.

edit: oh, and payment would be via PayPal - if you have a different payment method you would like supported though, ask. And no I don't accept stolen jewelery :p

I might be able to get someone to pay for hosting. Is $53 a year in US funds?

not sure readme, probably PHP 4.3.11 and MySQL 4.0.22, if it's the same as btp ( http://www.blamethepixel.com/phpinfo.php )

all my $ prices were USD - and payments would preferably be made in USD (at least monthly ones), as that's where the host is, hence there aren't any problems with exchange rates.

I'm pretty sure they're not running PHP5 yet because switching entirely would mean breaking a lot of scripts. running PHP5 concurrently with PHP4, though, may be coming soon.. I'll email.

(if it were a dedi I'd be able to just do it myself - but it's not...)

There's a PHP 5 being released?! That's not too good, if my hosting provider upgrades, will my scripts become broken? Or does PHP 5 simply add more features, and not change any v4 ones?
I worked so hard...:P

PHP5 was released ages ago. I can't tell you if your scripts will be broken or not, you'll have to look at the differences and see. (if they are it'll probably be only minor changes needed, depending on how well you've been coding)

According to Ipowerweb, my host upgraded. My scripts were breaking randomly for like a week so I emailed the company. They said they were upgrading. After a week everything went back to normal oddly.
