BTP now has it's own grid.org team!

To join it, download the United Devices client from grid,org and create an account!

In case someone never heard of what the client is and what purpose does it serve, it's well explained on the About page.
Long story short, it's like Whatpulse, but with CPU time instead of keys and clicks, and it serves a great cause. Team BTP wants YOU!


I don't understand this thing. How does it use my computer to help them? I've read the site but it doesn't tell me enough about it to want to download it.

Grid.org focuses on medicine projects - at the current time, studying cancer and finding a cure for it, and researching in the human proteome. Basically, the client downloads a small bunch of data off the server, works on it for a while, and then sends the results back. It uses a good chunk of your cpu (providing you're not using it yourself at the time).

If you ever used SETI@Home, it works in the exact same way.

Here's a description of current projects, and how each user can contribute to it.

The client is mostly automatic. Once it finishes working on a specific workunit, it sends your stats to the server along with the results. Your profile updates quickly, but afaik, the teams page updates once in 24 hours - there being thousands of teams, and all. Each workunit takes a different time to complete - some take an hour or two, others like Abd's first one, take up over 24 hours.

You wouldn't really need it to update every hour even if it could, anyway - unlike keys and clicks, the amount of points earned per hour is decided by the power of your machine, and how much the client was allowed to run - you can't increase it much.

OK, well for storgage performance is says there's 0.98GB of space, yet my HDD is 300GB:?

It's 1 Gig of allowed space. If you go complete your profile, you can alter the amount of space the program is allowed to have access to.

By the way, grid.org has statsigs like Whatpulse's - http://stat.numist.net/ud/index.php

They're a bit harder to configure and less customizable, but stable - your sig can't just screw up for no known reason for long periods..

It doesn't seem to work for me...

It does this:

Looks like they couldn't handle grid.org's hardware update fully after all.
