No, it's not Squaresoft joining Microsoft. It's the creator of Final Fantasy joining Microsoft. If you didn't know, he resigned a few months ago, break off into his own company. This means that games coming out of his studio are likely to go to Microsoft .

Then again, this is the power player Xbox really needs to survive. You can only ride on Halo and Unreal Championship for so long.

Great move for them, Im just a little sad that a classic game will be moving slightly. I never played any ff though.

Okay, let's try this one more time.
The Final Fantasy series as it's base, will not be moving away from Sony. Square-Enix still predominantly works for them. The story, is about the creator of FF, who broke away a few months ago to pursue his own career. He's now joined up with Microsoft.

And moved to OffTopic for the sheer hell of it.

Edit: Compare with this even more recent article. It basically says the same thing, but it verifies that Microsoft FINALLY turned a profit with the Xbox.

What exactly does that bloke do? I'm assuming he doesn't code the whole game himself, so is he the script writer, or the director, or what?

It does say he was the creator of final fantasy. Wether tha means he came up with the idea or started actually coding the game I have no idea.

He was lead designer for the first few Final Fantasies, and then Squaresoft put him over the entire series.
