Start menu > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Unless you disabled automatic creation of restore points, you'll find a few of em starting from a week ago. Note the fact that System Restore undoes only registry and Windows/program settings changes(which are, in fact, stored in the registry), it does not delete files created since the restore point.
And doing SR more than once makes your system unstable...

System restore wont work. The virus will still be there.
As for the panda software, Im willing to try it but because the virus is pratically unknown that probably wont work either.
BTW, I opened the page with firefox, it worked:p

He does have a virus scanner, but the virus is so new that nothing can be done about it.
As for deleting the file, if it resists deletion, try this:
Start up ScanDisk (DiskDefragmentor might work too, I havn't tried it).
Start it on Thorough mode.
Delete the file.
Empty the recycle bin BEFORE the scandisk is done (this shouldn't be a problem unless there's a lot of files or they're very large files).
I've found that doing that will allow you to delete basically anything on the harddrive. Be careful though, it is likewise possible to delete important system files using this method.

If I could do that I would have done it seconds after it was downloaded. If i try, it says access denied" I cant even move it to another file.

Reply to glenn:
that would work?? So, delete the file while scan disk is running? How does that work??

I don't know, but I do know that there were a bunch of spontaneously appearing backup .cab files on my computer (I don't even know what started them appearing). The only thing that stopped them appearing (or at least slowed them down) was running something that took up almost all of the computer's processing power (ie: scandisk), once again, your guess is as good as mine. When I went to try deleting them, it worked until scandisk stopped. As soon as it stopped, it returned the access denied error. So, I ran it on throrough, deleted the files and folder, and havn't had any problem with the files since then.
I don't know how it works, it just does .

What a crude way to get rid of something
Only one problem, scandisk keeps saying it has cant access all files in the drive so it must scan the computer on startup, rendering me unable to get to the file
Drat.

SORTED
I ran scandisk, then rebooted the PC. Amazingly it deleted cleanly into the recycle bin and messenger is working fine now
Still, it gave me a days worth of havoc.

Yeah, but you seemed to thing antivirus had quarantined it. What you failed to see was that the virus was still in my hard drive, isolated by a program that stops vriuses spreading.
Anyway, it was Glenn's crude idea which did the trick. There are no traces of viruses on my computer anymore

Well, as long as the virus is gone thats fine.
I've already had 4 people on my list try send it to me, fewls think I'm gonna accept it
Another thing is that stupid 'Buddy Icons' message. Don't people know that programs such as them have the word
'Spy-Ware' written all over them?
