Hello. Today, I encountered a strange error with Worms Armageddon. I had made a color map for that game, but when I tried to open it in the editor, it said "Error opening map file" and left it at that. I'm unsure why this happened. The map is the right dimensions, and it is in PNG format. Can anyone help me?

Tell me, did you save it as a PNG using a program such as Fireworks or Photoshop, or did you export it as a PNG 8, using, well, said program's exporter?

Considering I saved it in Microsoft Paint (you heard me), I can't really answer that...

Okay... well, I don't know exactly what Paint will do to a PNG, since mine isn't able to save in that format. But, you can do this:
Resave the map as a JPEG.
Place it in the W:A Import folder.
Select it by clicking the disk in the terrain editor.
Enter a name for it in the drop down box, and click save.

That should automagically save the map as a PNG in the W:A SavedLevels folder, and it will work.

altho i would use BMP and not JPEG to import to avoid loss of colour.

I get this error, too.
Just do what glenn said, it'll sort it out.

You're going to lose colors anyway, since it's going to drop from whatever it was to 64 or 96 colors. Which JPEG can more than handle.
Really though, I just mentioned it because it's the first thing that came to my mind.

well, colour was an inaccruate word to use tbh, i was refrring to the loss of picture qulity that you get due to JPEG artifacts.

Hi!
I'm experienceing the same problem (also with Paint), but nothing works. I've alreday tried JPGing or BITting the file, but strangely my WA can't even access to the Imported Files-Folder, not even the 3 maps that came with the installation aren't available in game. Is that maybe a bug caused by the beta-patch (3.6.31.0)?
Might a reinstallation of WA be helpful (though I'm looking for a smarter solution...)?

You know you have to click the blue disk icon to import them, right?

At least get a free program such as Paint.NET. It's infinitely better than Paint.

Well NOW I do *blush*
Thanks a lot
Well sure, everything's better than Paint, but I'm used to it and hardly ever need such sort of program.

Well, Paint can't really give you the proper options for PNGs. If you use BMP and the disk import button, I think WA probably still restricts the map size to 1920 x 696. To make bigger maps, you've gotta use PNG and put them in the SavedLevels folder.

I've done as described, first BIT/JPG, then imported. But since I've used many real pictures in my map, there's a big loss of quality when seeing the map in WA.
If saving the map as a png with a different program, would I be able to use it deirectly as a PNG without having to convert the format twice?

Yes. There's a higher colour limit on PNGs for WA, it's 113 colours, so it'd be better quality. Better programs let you choose how many colours to save in the map, and if you don't use too many, then WA won't have to downgrade the quality any more.
