DNA would be a hell of a long word if anyone today was bothered to write it out. The fact is no one has. If you read the second link I gave you it says that the word was composed of proteins etc. etc. at a time when they didnt have another way to call that kind of thing.

If they were going for a Master's degree, they might have heard of it, but probably not. I know someone that majored in the life sciences, and she didn't have any idea how to read that O_o.

I think theres probably a short version for it now, like there is with so many others, its just very intriguing that this was found in a dictionary.
