I am sure that people like RunT would agree with me on the fact that sometimes other browsers don't work for some people, thus the only option is IE

LOL, firefox loads pages much faster on my comp, but i tweaked every single setting, so maybe that's the reason. Real player... well i agree with HarrY's toughts, maybe be some slightly different words.
edit : i never crash at profile page, and with XP SP2, disabling DEP for firefox and IE gains speed and avoids crashes.

Still, i diagree with this punishment for IE users. They didn't do anything wrong. This would make a lot of people not visit this site.

YO can go to control panel/system/advanced/performance/parameters,
then DEP, and then "activate it for all programs except" and you choose the exceptions, i have set IE, FF, explorer.exe, etc.
Needs a reboot. Easy method, not risky.
----------------------------------------------------------
for computer friendly only :
How to disable DEP totally (careful doing this!) :
To disable DEP, perform the following actions:
* Click Start -> Run
* Enter Notepad %SYSTEMDRIVE%Boot.ini
* Under [operating systems] replace the parameter /NoExecute=xxxxx with /Execute
or change the /noexecute policy level to alwaysoff.
Save the Boot.ini file
* Restart your computer
IMPORTANT: Save a copy of your original Boot.ini file as a backup before you make changes!
edit :
/noexecute=OptIn is a setting for computers with processors without hardware enforced DEP support which will enable software enforced DEP.
There are a couple of settings:
/NoExecute=OptIn (enables DEP for Windows system files)
/NoExecute=OptOut (enables systemwide DEP)
/NoExecute=AlwaysOn (enables systemwide DEP without pssibility of individual application exclusion)
/NoExecute=AlwaysOff (disables DEP completely)

Quoting some comp' sites :
SP2 includes its so-called data execution prevention (DEP) feature, sometimes referred to as no execute (NX), which prevents portions of your system's memory from running some code. Viruses and worms load themselves into areas of a computerÂ’s memory normally reserved for data.
The often cited "buffer overrun" – used by some of the worst exploits in history (MSBlaster, Code Red, Slammer) falls into this category of transgression.
When armed with SP2Â’s DEP feature, those areas of memory where such viruses and worms try to load themselves are marked for "no execution." In other words, the executable code that viruses and worms rely on cannot run in these areas of memory.
But it slow odwn some apps and make them crash (some divx playback, DVD playback, browsing, and my explorer.exe crashed because of it).
Only a small percentage of PCs, however, support this feature by hardware. No current Intel Pentium 4-based PCs can take advantage of hardware DEP, and Intel won't release chips with DEP support until the end of the year at the earliest.
The only desktop CPUs that support DEP are AMD's Athlon 64 and Sempron chips.
I did the 2nd thing and it worked, but careful, if you type bad, you can crash your os completely.

I think this reversing is a bit discriminative towards IE users. What if they are happpy enuf with IE and they don't want to change
I think the way microsoft made IE, and even deliberately broke certain pages so they didn't work in opera [although it's fixed now] is discriminitive to other users. You've got to get the message through somehow. This way more people will be changing, and every little helps, eh?*
sometimes other browsers don't work for some people
There's no reason that I know of why firefox just plain wouldn't work, normally it would be a case of not reading instructions...
edit: and yes it wasn't meant to be a permanent feature
*what can I say, my parents shop at tesco.

and because i don't have an AMD's Athlon 64 or Sempron chips, the DEP doesn't actually need to be on?

DEP is enabled as software emulation on non compatible chips.

I used Opera for quite a while, but i ended up switching to FF. It's inevitable. Despite the fact that Opera is incredibly comfortable to use, has a lot of small and big features that are not in any other browsers, but are very useful, and it's officially the fastest browser in existence, Opera has become the buggiest piece of software ever since version 7.3. Most people use Opera for a while, but then get sick of it crashing and end up installing something else

With some tweaking around, Firefox can be damn fast, see my thread about it (much more than my IE on my comp). I don't know who tested FF first here and decided put the little link in the right column, but thanks to him/them.

Well as most of you may of noticed, the names are back in order.
Us hotheads in the chatroom thought it would be funny if usernames got reversed for a day.
