ello, right.. i was playing The Suffering (with my new ATi card with the case off, its usally on.... bad idea) and it was just getting good then
BAM
system shut down without any warning.. like the powersupply was pulled out or something. So I opened the case and it was BOILING inside.. i think i seen some smoke too but it was too dark to be sure.
It won't turn on anymore, but the ethernet still works when its plugged in and the power supply is plugged in (it does that) but when you try to actully turn it on, it does nothing at all. It isn't the switch because the switch is already broke and I have to use 2 wires to turn it on..
So, do you think its the motherboard or cpu? or both?
(I hate AMD and ATi now)
[edit]
ITS ALIVE, the PSU died, thats all.. heh

When someone was setting up the outlets in the computer room, I was on the computer, and he cut the wrong wire and all the power went out. It completely wiped out my computer.

Wiped it all? As in "deleted the whole hard-drive? I get Hundreds of power outages a year... the computer I am on now does not even have Scandisc. We leave the computer on 24/7 but I have never had an occourence of lost memory/files...
This computer is screwed up.... but it is not of reasons concering power outages....
Do you use a surge protector/powerbar?

If he cuts the wrong wire TO THE COMPUTER, no amount of surge/spike protection will save it.

I have lots of power outages too. I don't understand really. But yes, completely wiped. It went to a black screen, saying windows can't start up. So we sent it in to get fixed, and nothing was on the computer, when we got it back. Seems Pioneer322, had this happen in a power outage, but he managed to get 50% of his files back.

Actually, the more that I think about it, you'd think that instead of the hard disk getting wiped, that the power supply would just be zapped. Just an observation...
