u know how n00bs post to revive threads? How about if threads are locked or are more than 20 days old, the quick reply box disappears. That way, they have to click the post reply link. And that way, they consider what they're doing more than if it was a quick reply box

Well, if you really want to post in a thread, are you going to pay any attention to whether your typing in a quick reply or clicking a link. Just about every other forum on the face of the planet lacks the quick reply box, so anyone that's been to another forum is just drawn to the post reply button (like I was). It might be nice, but you'd have to do more than that to prevent posting.

to be honest, by favourite forum all have quick reply. There's one that i used to visit a lot - but they have no quick reply so i tend not to bother.

True. It probably wouldn't work. Maybe if the quick reply is replaced by a warning message, though. Maybe.

Uh? What message are you talking about? I meant that the quick reply box should be replaced by some text saying that the thread is old. Though that may be pointless.

Oh, I hadn't noticed that. Anyway, what I meant was that that message should replace the whole quick reply box, so you had to use "Post Reply".

That's what I said. Probably just explained it terribly. routine_error and I thought it was a great idea. But he doesn't know php and I'm not an admin. So I decided to post the idea here.
And your more likely to read the warning if you have to look where the "Post Reply" button is. Also, this will slow down the person reviving threads, if that's what he's trying to do to spam.

Your still able to have the Quick reply for all normal posts. This is just a safety measure so less threads are revived.

heh, i had a look at the code out of curiosity, turns out it only took 6 characters to do it.
