Those are the requirements for the FarCry game coming to PC on the 26th of March. Now I only recently discovered that the game does not come on CD but DVD in Europe (poor old americans have to suffer 4-5 CDs).
Anyway, as always I've come here for a little bit of help.
My PC does not play DVDs. Simple. Now I'm not sure if it's the same problem with DVD games, since I've never tried to install one.
Would the PC-DVD FarCry game run on my DVD-less drive.
This is the site I have pre-ordered the game off of:
http://shop.game.net/browse.aspx?cat=10
So say I can't install or play the game. Is there any software I could download so it does, or am I screwed.
Well, not screwed just cheap. I know there are DVD drives that are cheap but I don't know what to look for, as usuall.
Now I ask you very helpful BTP public to aid me in my quest to play FarCry. All answers, suggestions and rants at my complete lack of knowledge on DVD games welcomed.

Without a DVD drive, the game will be unplayable on your PC. I would be like puting a PC game into your playstation. Check in shops like Dixons, Currys and PC world, they will proberly have have going cheap (Not like the birds)
AFAIK there are no programmes that can help with the problem.

You need to buy a DVD drive. They cost about テつ」20.
Mine is a Pioneer 16xDVD, 40xCD slot model. Slot models also look cool.
It's the second one down on this page. But any of the ones on that page, or anywhere else, will do.
If you want to write DVDs, expect to pay テつ」60 to テつ」100.

Of course there isn't a program to allow DVDs to play on a regular CD player. With the exception of overclocking, you can't make a machine do what it wasn't made to do in the first place. Now then, DVD drives are pretty cheap (at least, here they are). Mine came with the computer to begin with. DVD burners are more like 150-200 though. And if you want to really spend your money, there is a Japenese only PS2 that burns DVDs as well. The only problem with it is it costs roughly $600!

It's fine, I'll just stick with a DVD drive. No re-writing for me.
Thanx for the link tundraH. I'll browse it more thoroughly soon bcos farcry arrives at my hosue on 28th.
One more question. Once I do have it, what do I do to install it?

do you have winxp?
if you do when you insert the drive it will say new hardware found and then just follow instructions, if not then your DVD drive should come with a CD with the drivers on it. Also if your PC is pretty old it may not have any spare space to insert a DVD drive so when purchasing one you may need to gte an external drive.

You can also buy DVD with FarCry and go to a friend who has DVD drive, then copy DVD to your own HDD(by Virtual CD program, which emulates all CD-DVD drives existing in the world just like you have one), and enjoy playing.

Um... why not just take out your CD drive, put in the DVD drive in its place, and run the driver for it. It's pretty obvious if you ask me, seeing as you can run CDs and games on a DVD drive... .

We have a cd and a dvd drive in, the cd drive is a re-writer, and the dvd drive is just a reader.
The CD drive is pretty much well... dead... though. It's rare that it can read a cd, and write errors are common

Ok, well I've ordered the DVD Drive tundraH mentioned above (the CD slide in function seems cool) and it'll arrive in the next 4 (working) days.
So to get ready for the arrival of it, I took the panels covering the extra drive bays off. For some reason a panel of metal stands in the way of fitting the DVD drive in.
At either end of the metal panel there is a '+' shape that has been cut out of the metal and there's a slightly eleviated semi circle as if it were a nose ring in the middle of the metal panel...
Any tips on how to remove this metal panel that blocks teh isntallation of a new drive?

I'll take that name mix-up as a compliment. :p
Not sure about your case. Is this panel in front of your other drives as well? Some cases have bits of soft metal that you have to rip out, but make sure it isn't easily removable before you destroy anything.
My old case had a funny hidden clip you had to press to get the hard drive out. Confused us for ages.

There, edited the name.
Back to the panel problem; I know it's not where it is on used drives as it is on the empty drives because it would be going straight through it causing it not to work...
Anyway, it's easily removable with a hacksaw if needsbe but I'll take a glimpse at the innerds in more detail when the PC is off.

Hey tundraH, I got the DVD drive today. I've connected the IDE and Power cable up, but the computer doesn't seem to recognise that it's been plugged in and it doesn't autoplay DVD's or CD's.
Help?
(I'm on XP)
