I'm with you on this one, C1. Although I do like backgrounds, and the whole idea as to what they're doing isn't that bad, you almost have to squint to read their posts. They also stand out like a sore thumb. If they just did a watercolor effect on the background it would be just fine, otherwise they ought to go. I won't be hiding them though, at least not yet.
