Hmm... well not really neccessary (and would probably end up dammed annoying), I think there may be a use for it. This suggestion comes from another forum, and I'm not going to tell you which, for fear that immature spammers will go and wreck the place . Convert swear words intp 1337. Ex:
shit = $|-|I7
Just something stupid, to keep those younger people that have these corruptable minds from understanding cursing. But it's sorta un-needed here, since almost everyone could swear everyone else under the table...

I don't think it would be necessary to convert swear words to 1337. There isn't a problem with those things.

There is when I'm trying to use BTP from a school computer - pretty much every other page is blocked. It's crazy. I've wanted to implement some kind of filter but I'm not sure how to go about it.

edit: optional swear filter, that is.

I hate the schools blocking system, If it sees a swear word , It block the screen and scares ya half to death ya like : doo-de-doo-de-doo*Click*{violation detected} WTF?

Yes, as much as we probably hate to admit it, swearing IS a problem at BTP. Actually, it doesn't really affect me much, since BTP (as well as most other forums), are naturally blocked at my school, as soon as someone is caught using it. But, for you other people out there... that's a problem. It's actually not all that hard to create a swearing blocker, in fact, you could use the same procedure you used with the continuous exclamation marks (at least, I think you can...).

My school has recently blocked image searching from Google.com because of the pornographic content. They also block all sorts of other useful sites [because they're fucking morons, appearetnly]. However (and rather surprising), they don't automatically ban pages for 'swearing' or anything like that (that I know of). I can view BTP just fine at school.

heh. well I knew putting computers in the sixth form block was a bad idea (or not, for other reasons). There's always someone using Google image search with Safe search off trying to find the worst pictures .

And BTP did get completely blocked for me, but the blocking system is pretty bad, so it only got blocked with the www infront. Even if it were blocked without, I still have the other address - host80.ipowerweb.com/~blamethe

And yes indeed Glenn, it would be done through the same set of functions, and should apply to most things then... It's just the method of working out which words to replace and how to get them individually - etc. that I'm not sure about.

Just type in every word manually. Not so hard. There are not an ∞ number of swear words.

well, in my school we only have 1 PC, and no internet, so I dont even go on btp from school...............
life sucks

we have tons of computers in ou school
avery single last one of them has a broken something, useually the mouse
and BTP isnt blocked thre, i just get scripting errors. lol, IE 4

yeah, we have rooms full of them, btp aint blocked there though... although almost no sites are there
