Because it's a long (32-bit) integer with a limit of 2^32 (2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2) = 4294967296, or -2147483648 to +2147483648.
The reason for this is that this number in decimal makes the most efficient use of 32 binary 0s and 1s. 4294967296 seems like a wierd number but in binary it's 100000000000000000000000000000000 which is pretty logical.

To sum up tundraH's post, it is not a weird number at all. 10000d would be a weird number, if it has to do with computer data.

hmm, but since money goes to decimal points it cannot be an integer field - i cba to check atm but it must be a floating point or a double precision number.

because browsers work on a code basis, where tags are required or they go word by word, they aren't scrictly on a text basis, or every web page would be five times as long as it should be (extra line breaks). so when you enter 5 spaces, it totally ignores 4 of them.
that's where PRE tags (<pre> come in. that leaves all 'text formatting' as-is, so the ASCII comes out looking as it does when it's entered.
and voila, we have your french lovers.

unfortunately this forum code isn't 100% bug free and no post processing seemed to break it, while the [code] tag allowed smilies inside - all fixed now.

good point readme, it's a float, so it's range is:
{-3.402823466E+38
to
-1.175494351E-38,}
{0,}
{and 1.175494351E-38
to
3.402823466E+38}
the first bit's negative, the second erm, 0, and the third positive.
So basically the maximum value is ~340282346600000000000000000000000000000
or something. I might've lost count on the 0s there, there's 38 numbers after the 3.
