cout << (text or variable name goes here); is C++ output code. The if statements don't have a then, because C++ doesn't have then in it's syntax. && is the and comparason, || is the or comparason, == is the equivalent comparason, != is the inequivalent comparason | |

Besides the $ missing, a few brackets missing and the cout <<, it's exactly the same as php..
