The play button on the laugh track...?

There is no button for a live audience. Only a light up sign that says "laugh".

But how many actually have a live audience?

Also, even if there is a live audience, they normally replace most of their laughing with laugh track because the real stuff doesn't go well with the program (yes, I watched the making of friends...)

Seinfeld used a live audience. You can sometimes tell, because every once in a while you will hear faint laughter of maybe 1 person. And sometimes you can hear a really annoying laugh, that I would expect noone to put in a "Laugh track".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_comedies_without_laugh_tracks

I think a list with laugh tracks would be more useful...

edit: anyway I don't really trust wikipedia for this information anyway.. funny how it says 'Animated television series are not included in this list since few have laugh tracks'

And in the list you find Family Guy.

Not the live version of Family Guy. Durr.

Although, that really isn't a TV show. And no one is laughing on that one D:

The old comedies like monty python were definatly live. Occasionaly, theres a guy coughing in a really quiet part.

I voted abstain because the comedy is really too different to compare for me. I'm gonna repeat everything people have said because you are all right:

American comedy is very formulaic. They usually go for stupidity and sex gags. Shows like scrubs spring to mind. Friends was very witty, but you could tell when the jokes were going to come. I loved Scrubs, Friends, The Simpsons and, strangely enough, how I met your Mother. Will and Grace is appaulingly set up most of the time. Thought i'd add that...

English comedy is on the whole a bit more witty with large doses of sarcasm and irony that never really appear in American comedy. Not that thats bad of course. Just different. Green Wing was amazingly sick, but it worked. Monty Python is my all time favourite. And theres a load more sketch shows like The Fast Show, Dead Ringers, Smith and Jones etc. Infact I cant remember if i've ever seen an American sketch show...?

am i the only one who feels that the fact brass eye didnt have a laugh track is so amazingly obvious for it to be written down is redundant.

There was a show I just saw today, called King of Queens, it was so "unfunny" I felt so uncomfortable watching it and got more and more annoyed every second I watched it. And of course... It had everyone's lovable laugh tracks. My god dude, how do these shows make money?

People tend to watch them because they're so crap. That's why people watch things like Hollyoaks.

Edit RunT: ...and Eastenders :P

Edit Star Worms: How dare you edit my post, fiend!

people watch hollyoaks for the women, and eastenders for the storyline - i'm pretty sure King of Queens has neither.
