AOl live Help is a very basic chat program that allows you to speak with an AOL official that helps you with technical problems. Here is just one conversation I've had with them.

Quoted :: AOL

Chatagentuk107: Welcome to Member Help Interactive. Please present your question, and I will be with you in just a moment. :)
Chatagentuk107: Thank you for calling in to Live Help! I may be with some other members at the moment, please state your query and I will be with you as soon as possible :-)
Humbug 564: If you go to AOL Keyword: Broadband Driver, and click on the BT Voyager 50 modem driver, it gives me a dialogue box saying "File not found"
Humbug 564: hello?
Chatagentuk107: Could you please let me know whether you have a BT Voyager 105 modem?
Humbug 564: No, I have a BT Voyager 50 modem. Why would I want a driver for a modem I don't have?
Chatagentuk107: Please let me know since when are you facing this problem?
Humbug 564: The porblem I'm facing is that there's no Driver files at the AOL Keyword: Broadband Drivers page

Humbug 564: problem*
Chatagentuk107: I have send you an email with a link
Chatagentuk107: Please click on that link and let me know whether it works?
Humbug 564: The page displays
Humbug 564: The modem driver I want to download doesn't though
Humbug 564: Do you not understand what I'm saying?
Chatagentuk107: Yes I am
Chatagentuk107: Did you tried it with the email I have send?
Humbug 564: Yes, I just told you the "page displays"
Chatagentuk107: Thank you for all the information and being patient with me :)
Chatagentuk107: Can you please tell me the version of AOL and Windows that you are using?
Humbug 564: I'm using Windows XP Professional and AOL 8
Humbug 564: My operating system and version of AOL should not effect me getting a file off of the AOL servers
Chatagentuk107: There are some steps that you will need to do solve this problem
Humbug 564: Are you going to tell me them?
Chatagentuk107: yes
Humbug 564: That's handy
Chatagentuk107: Please try the below steps after closing AOL
Chatagentuk107: 1. Click on Start -> Programs -> AOL -> System Information Tool. 2. Click on the Utilities tab. 3. Now click on Uninstall AOL Adaptor. 4. You'll be asked to reboot the PC. 5. Select Yes when asked to restart the computer. 6. The next time AOL is launched, a new AOL Adapter will be created and you will need to reboot your PC again when prompted.
Chatagentuk107: Click on START -> CONTROL PANEL. In Control Panel double click on the INTERNET OPTIONS icon. In here click on the PROGRAMS tab. Click on RESET WEB SETTINGS then click OK.
Chatagentuk107: and
Chatagentuk107: Click on the Start button->Control Panel->Internet options->Settings button->Click on view files->Press Ctrl + A ->then press Delete.
Chatagentuk107: Then restart the computer
Humbug 564: And what is this meant to resolve?
Humbug 564: Hello?
Chatagentuk107: I would request you to please try the above steps once and thentry to download the drivers again
Humbug 564: Ok, fair enough you want me to but are those steps going to help me download the driver file from the Broadband Driver page or not?
Chatagentuk107: Yes they should be and I will also send you a FREE CD for Broadband drivers
Chatagentuk107: And before that
Chatagentuk107: For security reasons I will need you to verify the last 4 digits of your credit card, debit card or bank account number with which you pay AOL?
Humbug 564: ****
Chatagentuk107: Thank you for validating your account:)
Chatagentuk107: I have requested a FREE Broadband CD for you and you will get it within 5 working days
Humbug 564: Huzzah!
Humbug 564: Now another problem I have
Chatagentuk107: Yes please
Humbug 564: Everytime I Shutdown or Restart the PC, when I turn it back on again, the modem fails to work and in the bottom right hand side of the desktop, where the arrows are located, they are red which signals no connection.
Humbug 564: This has happened only within the 4 days
Humbug 564: after this new driver update AOL prompted me to download as there was something changing witht he servers
Humbug 564: Anyway, after I tried installing that, I had to get onto Live Help because a Restart the PC dialogue kept popping up in flash form in relation to the AOL driver update whenever I started my PC up
Humbug 564: So I disabled it appearing with msconfig and going to the startup tab
Humbug 564: After that it stopped appearing
Humbug 564: but now I get the problem I first described where the modem arrows aren't Green
Humbug 564: So for the past 3 or 4 days
Humbug 564: I've been plugging the modem into a laptop which also had AOL installed
Humbug 564: the laptop starts up and the arrows are Green, which is good
Humbug 564: I then unplug the USB from out of the laptop and plug it into the PC
Humbug 564: Only then does it work
Humbug 564: And that's how I got onto AOL today
Humbug 564: So if you will, it'd be jolly nice to know I have to do all this to just talk to you to fix this problem
Chatagentuk107: It seems to be a modem problem and that is why you are facing this problem
Humbug 564: Ok, well I'll follow those steps but I've got another problem too
Humbug 564: How come AOL phased out having AOL Version 8 available for download on the AOL pages?
Chatagentuk107: Yes AOL 8.0 was introduced in this phase recently
Chatagentuk107: I would request you to please call our ADSL department and ask them if the modem can be replaced
Humbug 564: Why, what's wrong with the modem?
Humbug 564: Is there a bomb in it?
Humbug 564: Tell me!
Chatagentuk107: No there is not
Humbug 564: I really don't see why I should have to replace hardware that I recieved with the broadband package
Humbug 564: AOL cater to me and my needs, not their greedy money saving ways
Humbug 564: so the ADSL department you say?
Humbug 564: What's the number and will I get the replacement for free?
Chatagentuk107: I would request you to please call them on 0870 320 2020 and you can check with them if you can get it for free
Humbug 564: It's really not a case of 'if' I'll get it for free, it's a case of 'when' I'll get it completly
Chatagentuk107: I have requested the CD for you and you will get it soon and I would request you to please try the above step once
Humbug 564: I don't quite understand what you're saying
Humbug 564: I should follow those steps
Humbug 564: but also get a new modem
Humbug 564: Is there any point following those steps if my actual hardware is the source of the problem
Chatagentuk107: No if the steps solve the problem then there is no need to replace the modem otherwise you will have to
Humbug 564: Say I did have to get a replacement modem, would it be the same model or a different model?
Chatagentuk107: It will be the latest one
Humbug 564: I see. So that means there's something different with my modem that AOL requires
Humbug 564: Could you tell me what's wrong with the modem I have right now?
Humbug 564: It's not tried to kill me. I like it that way, you understand...
Chatagentuk107: No there is nothing wrong as such but if the steps I have given you does not work then you will need to check the modem settings once
Humbug 564: What's all this "check the modem settings once" you're mentioning. You didn't say that before
Humbug 564: It'd be really great if I had been given this information at the start but I've had to battle against you to find out things that are key to fixing my problem
Chatagentuk107: Modem settings means to check whether the modem is faulty or not
Humbug 564: And once I find out it's faulty, I shall recieve a free replacement, as it is courteous to do so, if I phone the ADSL department?
Chatagentuk107: Yes you should be if you are within the contract
Humbug 564: Are you intimidating me?
Chatagentuk107: No I am not but I am requesting you to please try the steps once otherwise we will not be able to come to a conclusion
Humbug 564: But the thing you seem to be missing is, "we" cannot come to a conclusion. As soon as I disconnect and restart the PC numerous times, this window will not be open for obvious reasons meaning you will have gotten rid of me
Chatagentuk107: The reinstalling of Modem drivers should solve the problem
Humbug 564: That's what they all say...
Humbug 564: How do I know I can trust you this time?
Humbug 564: Hmm, silence eh?
Chatagentuk107: No I am here
Humbug 564: Indeed, otherwise replying you are gone would be a paradox
Humbug 564: I've always seen AOL Live Help as an oxymoron
Chatagentuk107: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this issue has caused you.
Humbug 564: I highly doubt that. This is your job and you're paid to say that
Humbug 564: Unless you do this for free as a volunteer
Humbug 564: Which would seem amazingly debilitating and crushing to the human soul
Humbug 564: AOL often crushes my soul...
Humbug 564: I know you're not allowed to show any emotion, but I hope I've gotten you angry. I hope you feel my pain everytime I'm disconnected from AOL without my permission, it's constant flaunting of 'useful' programs that do nothing more than have cute little moving graphics and the help from staff like you is just tedious
Chatagentuk107: I do understand your concern and I would have felt the same if I was in your place.
Humbug 564: Do you, yourself, at home, given free will, use AOL at home?
Chatagentuk107: No we do not have that as we are AOL representative
Humbug 564: So you cannot possibly imagine the suffering I've had dealt at me like playing cards by the hand of AOL
Humbug 564: So please, in future, for any else you plan to say "you'd feel the same" in THEIR situation, don't. Because it's a lie. A very big, dirty lie.
Chatagentuk107: ok
Humbug 564: I know you're getting all of these instructions off of a database of troubleshooting
Humbug 564: Don't you think it'd be better to make that database publicly available?
Humbug 564: I would've fixed the problem, not wasted your time and I'd have had no fake emotion thrown at me to console my bleeding eyes
Chatagentuk107: I apologize but it is the confidential AOL data and as per Company Policy we cannot give out any information.
Humbug 564: But you just gave out information from that database to me?
Humbug 564: Isn't it possible I could now go on a mass spree and give away all your 'secrets'?
Humbug 564: Theoretically, I could pose every single problem known to AOL and recieve the information in the database
Humbug 564: So why not just make it available and save us the trouble of dealing with a middle man?
Chatagentuk107: I apologize but we cannot disclose that
Chatagentuk107: Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?
Humbug 564: No, but we'll see if anything appears between today and tomorrow...
Humbug 564: And don't tell me to have a nice day
Chatagentuk107: Yes please
Chatagentuk107: Thank you for calling in to us, please come back to chat again if you have any further problems. Goodbye :-)
Humbug 564: Not 'if' but 'when'. Just remember that...

Was all that real? That has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever read! I'm suprised the guy didn't go off at you... But I guess he probably would've lost his job.

That was retardedly funny! Usually businesses have more professional people to help with problems. I guess that's AOL for you tho.
The guy made a ton of spelling mistakes and really didn't know what your problem was..

ROFL

This is teh best shit EVAR!

It just means don't use AOL because it's really gay. It's hillarious how they have these people hired to pretend to know things...

I'm surprised I didn't see a "lol" from the AOL person in there. Are you sure it's a he? Maybe it's a she.

It was either he left AOL, or was going to leave them.
