Especially funny to view the difference between loading this page in IE and Firefox:

I don't think IE actually downloads the images again, but it probably checks every one against the website to see if it has changed since. Figuring out how to get image rollovers working properly + speedily in IE on slow connection is a nightmare.

Opera loaded quickest
Then Firefox and Mozilla close behind
Then IE miles behind as I got bored of it loading every single bloody image.

Because it has "microsoft inside" feature.
and because MS add code, fix (sometimes= existing things on an existing (old) engine, FF's engine is much newer (gecko).

Woohoo I've figured out how to get images preloading properly in IE, there's no longer a delay while IE checks if the image has changed on the server.

The trick is to use the onload attribute of the image, and don't try and display any preloaded image until after it's onload function has been called.

And I have noticed one thing
Opera is at least 3 times faster than FF
I would stick to it if they make some version that doesnt crash on every 20 minutes
